VTV.vn - During the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year 2026, northern and central Vietnam are forecast to experience warm weather with minimal rainfall, making it ideal for travel and spring outings.

Predicting  weather trends for the Lunar New Year holiday on February 2, Nguyen Van Huong, Head of the Weather Forecast Department at the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, stated that average temperatures in February are likely to be 0.5-1°C above the long-term average. As a result, during this year’s Lunar New Year, northern and central regions will see warmer conditions and limited rainfall, making it convenient for people to travel and enjoy spring festivities.

February, typically the core winter month, is expected to be affected by around 2-3 cold  spells. However, these cold spells are unlikely to be severe, with a low probability of causing  conditions as  harsh as those recorded from January 6-10 and January 22-25 in the Northern and North-Central regions.

The winter of 2025-2026 is characterized by higher-than-average temperatures and fewer days of severe cold compared to the climatological norm. For reference, the winter of 2023-2024 saw 13 severe cold spells, whereas , the winter of 2025-2026 has  seen 12  thus far.

“We are experiencing a warmer winter than the long-term average. However, in the coming period, attention should still be paid to the possibility of short-lived severe cold spells in northern Vietnam and the Thanh Hoa-Nghe An area, which may be accompanied by frost in high mountainous regions”, emphasized  Mr. Huong.

Temperatures in southern Vietnam  during the Lunar New Year holiday are expected to remain moderate, with a low likelihood of heat waves, in contrast to some previous years.

As for the humid, damp conditions recently observed in northern provinces, forecasts indicate that from mid-February onward, and especially during March and April, this type of weather will reach its peak.
