The documentary Old Asian Restaurants is a joint project of Vietnam Television and Mokpo MBC Television, Korea. It was shot in Vietnam, Korea, Japan and Taiwan (China). In Vietnam, the production team of the Department of Science and Education Program of VTV chose to introduce three traditional dishes: cha ca La Vong, bun bo Hue and pho Van Cu Nam Dinh.
With the desire to tell a meaningful culinary story and convey cultural and historical values, the production team from two countries, Vietnam and Korea, conceived the idea and worked on the script very early.
"This is the second project we have produced with Mokpo MBC Korea (the first being Secret Gardens). In order to maximize efficiency, both parties discussed concepts and production techniques. The film tells stories about life, culture and history through the culinary theme," said journalist Trinh Quoc Dong, deputy head of VTV's science and education program department.
Meanwhile, Director Lee Kyeong Min of Mokpo MBC TV Station in Korea said: "We fully trust the professional expertise of the VTV crew as we have experience working together on previous film projects. In addition, the restaurants they have selected are quite fascinating, showcasing many distinctive aspects of Vietnamese food and culture, and the production schedule corresponds with the actual filming at each location. We had excellent coordination."
At each location, the production team had to find the right equipment for the space of the restaurants.
"Working in such restaurants will affect both the diners and the cooks. Therefore, the equipment we have chosen is small and compact, but it all meets the parameters required by the Korean side" - said Director Nguyen Hoang Lam, Department of Science and Education.
