VTV.vn - Vietnamese medics at the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan held a national flag salute ceremony on January 3 to mark the beginning of the new year, according to Tien Phong Newspaper.

After saluting the Vietnamese flag, Lt Col Trinh My Hoa, as director of the Level-2 Field Hospital No.3, extended New Year greetings to the hospital staff and their families.

He also encouraged Vietnamese medics to strive to overcome the new COVID-19 outbreak in South Sudan and support the local healthcare system amid the lack of healthcare workers and rising cases.

Speaking at the event, Lt Col Pham Tan Phong, chief commander of Vietnam’s peacekeeping force in South Sudan, spoke highly of the field hospital’s achievements in 2021, helping to affirm Vietnam’s commitment to contribute to world peace.

Earlier, the field hospital launched a tree planting movement with the goal of planting 1,000 trees in the hospital campus, units and organisations at the base as well as at schools in the region.

Lt Col Phong said the activity is highly meaningful amid the growing impacts of climate change, especially with the worst flooding disaster in 60 years that South Sudan is suffering from.
