VTV.vn - Vietnam reported an annual growth rate of 125.9% in terms of its tourist arrivals to Japan in 2018, the highest among countries and territories with the most significant percentage hikes in travel to the ‘Land of the Rising Sun’.

According to the White Paper on Tourism in Japan 2019 announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism on June 21, Vietnamese arrivals to Japan reached more than 389,000 last year, a 1.25-fold increase compared to the 2017 figure.

The number of Vietnamese visitors is forecast to continue surging sharply in the time ahead due to the rising trend of studying and working in Japan, coupled with the improved income of the people.

In 2018, Japan welcomed 31.19 million international visitors to Japan who consumed a total of approximately YEN4.52 trillion (US$42.197 billion), representing respective 3.7-fold and 4.2-fold increases in the number of arrivals and tourism consumption against 2012.

China continued to take the lead in terms of the number of arrivals to Japan with over 8.3 million (26.9% of the total), followed by the Republic of Korea with over 7.5 million and Taiwan (China) with more than 4.7 million.

The White Paper on Tourism in Japan 2019 also pointed out the growing interest of tourists in unique experiences and interactions with indigenous people, such as skiing and living with the people in the forest.

According to the paper, Japan will continue its policy of attracting tourists with the completion of infrastructure and the sufficient provision of wireless networks to tourist sites and accommodation areas, as well as actively promoting tourism in different languages and with new modern technologies.
