Renewing TV production mindsets in the digital era
Vietnam Television held its 2025 Year-End Review and 2026 Task Deployment Conference on the afternoon of January 10. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the event and delivered a keynote address.

In his opening remarks, VTV Director General Nguyen Thanh Lam emphasized that the conference took place as the country continued to maintain positive growth momentum, with economic growth reaching 8.02%. He added that this resultis a testament to the correct leadership of the Party, the Politburo, and the Secretariat, led by Party General Secretary To Lam, as well as the Government and Prime Minister's decisive, flexible, innovative, and breakthrough governance, alongside the tremendous efforts of the entire political system, the people, and the business community nationwide.

Against this backdrop, VTV made substantial efforts to fulfill its assigned political missions and continued to uphold its role as the national leading media agency. The broadcaster provided timely, comprehensive, in-depth, and practical coverage of the Party’s guidelines, resolutions, and the State’s policies and lawss. VTV made a strong impact reporting on many major national events such as the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s birth, the 80th anniversary of National Day (September 2), 80 years of the heroic Vietnamese People’s Public Security, 80 years of the Government, and 80 years since the first General Election. VTV has also covered numerous other important political, diplomatic, and socio-economic events.
“Live television programs, documentaries, thematic programs, large-scale television bridges, and especially the recent major music and cultural mega-events produced by VTV under the Prime Minister’s direction have contributed to spreading national pride, strengthening social trust, and fostering public consensus”, Director General Nguyen Thanh Lam stressed.

He noted that 2025 also marked several significant milestones for VTV , including the successful convening of the 12th Party Congress of the VTV Party Committeeand the celebration of the 55th anniversary of the first television broadcast. On this occasion, VTV was honored to welcome Party General Secretary To Lam, who presented the broadcaster with guiding words: “Everyone - Every time - Everywhere - Sharp - Engaging”, a concise, television-centric, and highly meaningful orientation for VTV'’s new development phase.
In line with the Party and State’s policy on streamlining organizational structures, VTV shrunk the number of affiliated units from seven to zero and consolidated 45 department-level units into 38, while also assuming the functions and tasks of five television units that ceased operations.
At the same time, VTV created new development spaces. The official launch and broadcast of the national external television channel, Vietnam Today, enhanced the effectiveness of external communications, promoted Vietnam’s image, and expanded the country’s media sovereignty on the international stage. Following the Prime Minister’s guidance, VTV successfully organized large-scale music festivals and concerts, attracting tens of thousands of audiences and creating positive cultural and artistic highlights, thereby contributing to the development of the cultural industry.
Alongside content production innovation, digital transformation continued to be identified as a strategic pillar. Amid intense competition in the media market, VTV proactively adjusted its business policies to ensure a balance of revenues and expenditures. In 2025, total revenue increased by nearly 9% compared to 2024, exceeding targets. Meanwhile operating expenses decreased by 7% compared to planned figures, establishing a stable financial foundation and gradually improving the material and spiritual well-being of staff.
Looking ahead to 2026, VTV defines the year as a pivotal transition from stabilization and consolidation to acceleration and breakthrough. Key priorities include updating television production mindsets in the digital era, putting audiences first, and using high-quality content, data, and technology as foundations, strengthening professional discipline. Other priorities are enhancing governance efficiency and financial autonomy.
“With high political determination, an innovative spirit, and a strong aspiration for development, Vietnam Television is dedicated to fulfilling the missions entrusted by the Party, the State, and the people”, Director General Nguyen Thanh Lam affirmed.
During the conference, delegates listened to several thematic presentations that emphasized the application of science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation as top strategic breakthroughs and key driving forces guiding development in the new phase. VTV is committed to doing even better in 2026 by supporting production units in creating more high-quality programs and delivering timely, fast news anytime, anywhere, further strengthening VTV’s position as the Party and Government’s leading media agency in the new era.
Bold renewal, continuous innovation, breakthrough growth, and sustainable development

The Prime Minister summarized VTV’s achievements from 2025 with the following words: “Timely information - Improved quality - Positive transformation - Effective coordination - Streamlined apparatus - Professional workforce”.
He elaborated that “Timely information” means fully and accurately updating all aspects of social life, communicating policies, countering false viewpoints, and closely following security, order, and anti-corruption hotspots. “Improved quality” refers to depth and positive societal impact. “Positive transformation” highlights effective digital and multi-platform transformation, especially praising the launch of Vietnam Today.
“Effective coordination” refers to VTV’s strong collaboration with ministries and localities during significant events such as A80, capturing the people’s patriotic spirit. “Streamlined apparatus” acknowledges organizational restructuring, while “Professional workforce” recognizes the dedication, courage, and willingness of journalists, editors, and staff to work in hazardous conditions, such as during natural disasters and in crime prevention efforts.
The Prime Minister also commended VTV’s entertainment and cultural programs for renewing life themes, competing with foreign productions, and providing the public with high-quality “spiritual nourishment”. He highlighted recent Vietnamese television dramas and Road to Olympia Mount, which has “kept the flame alive” for 20 years.

As 2026 begins, the Prime Minister presented VTV with a guiding motto: “Unity and consensus - Overcoming difficulties - Innovation and creativity - Professional and effective - Comprehensive breakthroughs - People’s trust - Friends’ affection - Enhanced brand”.
He urged VTV to further strengthen its role as the leading media agency, enhance the quality and effectiveness of its information, and continue contributing to ideological orientation, as well as advising the Party and State on media and communications.
Looking ahead, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of communicating the achievements of the 13th Party Congress term, preparing its information for the 14th National Party Congress, implementing Politburo resolutions, and identifying exemplary role models to inspire the entire nation.

After listening to the conference discussions, the Prime Minister also called on VTV to accelerate digital transformation, using science and technology as the foundation for rapid and sustainable development. He also urged VTV to enhance its enhance external communications to highlight Vietnam as a stable, dynamic, and trustworthy country, and expand its foreign-language offerings, such as Arabic and French, on its external television channel.
“We hope and firmly believe that Vietnam Television will continue to renew itself, innovate, achieve breakthroughs and sustainable development. We are confident that it will successfully fulfill its critical mission”, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized.
At the conference, on behalf of the Party and State leadership, the Prime Minister presented the First-Class Labor Order to Vietnam Television for its outstanding achievements in fulfilling political tasks assigned by the Party and State in 2025, contributing to public opinion orientation and promoting Vietnam’s image.
He also awarded Do Thanh Hai, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Standing Deputy Director General of Vietnam Television, the Third-Class Labor Order for his exceptional achievements in leading innovation in cultural and artistic program production and contributing to an improved public spiritual life and the development of the cultural industry.

In addition, the Prime Minister awarded Certificates of Merit to collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in activities commemorating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2), as well as projects celebrating the 14th Party Congress.
