The day was chosen because the association claim the pronunciation of phở and the number 4 are quite similar.
At an announcement ceremony on April2, attended by a large number of Japanese and Vietnamese people in Osaka and surrounding cities, Consul General Tran Duc Binh said he hopes the event would help Japanese people get a better understanding of Vietnamese famous delicious dishes and culture.
Vietnamese restaurants are becoming more common in Japan, and indicate that Vietnam could make more of its culinary treats. Now with it’s own special celebratory day phở will hopefully warm the stomachs of many more eager pho lovers in the Japanese capital.
