VTV.vn - According to latest statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2017, the number of captive bears stands at 936, compared to 4.300 in 2005.

This is thanks to the efforts of the government, international organisations and society over the past 12 years. This year, in order to further raise public awareness about bear protection, the Education for Nature Vietnam (ENV) has launched "Bear Protection Week" for the first time in Vietnam. The awareness week kicked off on December 10th with the event "Run for Bears".

Bear protection week will continue with a number of activities such as an environmental education program at a primary school in Phuc Tho, one of the hot spots for bear farming in Vietnam; "Bear protection" exhibitions in 10 provinces across the country; and a program to microchip bears in Dong Nai province.
