Vietnam reports 102 new cases of COVID-19 on the morning of June 29

Among the domestic cases, 54 were detected in Ho Chi Minh City, 14 in Hung Yen, 11 in Bac Giang, eight in Ha Tinh, three in Bac Ninh, two in Hai Phong and one each in Dong Thap and Lang Son.

The new cases brought the national count to 16,238, including 14,452 domestic and 1,786 imported cases. As many as 6,519 patients have already recovered from the disease.

The number of locally-transmitted cases since the fourth wave of outbreaks hit the country on April 27 rose to 12,882, including 3,745 recoveries.

*The Covivac vaccine produced by the Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals (IVAC) has completed its first phase of clinical trials on humans. This is the second COVID-19 vaccine being made in Vietnam that has been licensed for human testing.

Professor, Dr. Dang Duc Anh, Director of the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, said that according to preliminary assessments, the Covivac vaccine has shown good safety and positive immunogenicity in phase 1.

In the second phase, the vaccine is scheduled to be given to volunteers in July 2021 while the third phase of clinical trials of Covivac will be carried out by the end of this year.

Meanwhile, Nanocovax, the Vietnam's first vaccine candidate, is in the final stage of clinical trials , being conducted on 13,000 people.

*The Ministry of Health also announced the 77th and 78th COVID-19 related deaths on June 29 morning. Both were men from Ho Chi Minh City with severe underlying conditions.

The 77th patient, 77 years old, lived in Binh Tan district. He tested positive for coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 on June 26 and was transferred to Trung Vuong Hospital for treatment while he was in a coma and had difficulty breathing.

Before contracting COVID-19, he was suffering from cerebrovascular disease for four years, weakness in the right half of his body, was unable to speak, and had high blood pressure.

He died on June 20. The cause of death was recorded as severe pneumonia caused by COVID-19, complications of multi-organ failure and septic shock.

The 78th patient, 54 years old, lived in District 1. He tested positive for the virus on June 19 and was transferred to the Trung Vuong Hospital for treatment on June 24. He died on June 26.

Prior to the virus, he was suffering from hypertension, type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease.

The cause of death was recorded as severe pneumonia caused by COVID-19, respiratory failure, multi-organ failure and septic shock.

*Da Nang has temporarily suspended the operation of the Tho Quang fishing port since the night of June 28 and taken samples for COVID-19 testing for all traders at the fishing port.

The move was made after the Da Nang health sector received information about five COVID-19 patients in Duc Pho district, Quang Ngai province who previously came to the fishing port to pick up goods.

*The People’s Committee of Vinh City has suggested that all passengers arriving at Vinh International Airport must have COVID-19 test results in the form of a real time RT-PCR test or a negative rapid test. The test should have been made within three days before arrival at the airport.

People who do not have COVID-19 test results must perform a rapid test on the spot and pay for the test costs.

The city recorded its first COVID-19 case on June 13 and is implementing social distancing from June 19 amid the complicated progress of the pandemic.
