Vietnam Off-Road Motorcycle Racing Championship - VTV Cup 2026 Opens in Son La

This year’s competition brings together more than 110 athletes from 26 off-road motorcycle clubs nationwide. They compete in three categories: D1 (Open), D2 (Semi-Professional), and E (Professional).

The event is organized by Vietnam Television’s Center for Ethnic and Rural Communication (VTV5), in coordination with the Vietnam Cycling and Motor Sport Federation and the Son La Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The races are broadcast live on VTV5 and VTV6 and are simulcast on the Son La Newspaper and Radio-Television  fanpage.

Those attending the opening ceremony  included  Tong Thi Phong, former Politburo member and former Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly; current and former leaders of Son La Province; VTV5 leaders, Vietnam Television; representatives of the Vietnam Cycling and Motor Sport Federation; provincial department and agency leaders; and large numbers of residents and visitors.

This year’s race brings together more than 110 riders from 26 off-road motorcycle clubs across the country, including six women and 15 foreign riders  who are currently living  in Vietnam. Competitors are divided into three categories: D1 (Open), D2 (Semi-Professional), and E (Professional).

The approximately 6.8-kilometre course is designed in the Hard Enduro style, making full use of the area’s natural terrain. Riders must tackle steep slopes, dirt tracks, dry stream beds, rocky sections, natural forest and tea hills, as well as a range of technical obstacles.

The varied terrain requires competitors to combine motorcycle-handling skills, physical endurance, sound judgment, and the ability to make quick decisions. It is these demanding elements that give the Vietnam Off-Road Motorcycle Racing Championship - VTV Cup 2026 its distinctive appeal.

The opening ceremony took place in a lively atmosphere, featuring a flag-raising and artistic performances by artist Vi Hoa and a dance piece entitled “Dance of Unity”.

Immediately after the ceremony, the athletes  took to the track  in accordance with the official race schedule. Spectators can look forward to thrilling action with steep climbs, stream crossings, technical obstacles, and challenging terrain sections.

As well as providing a competitive arena for off-road motorcycle enthusiasts, the Vietnam Off-Road Motorcycle Racing Championship - VTV Cup 2026 also   promotes Son La’s landscapes, culture and tourism potential. It is also   an attractive sporting event that is  closely linked to the province’s terrain and local identity.
