VTV.vn - Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Vietnam reached US$5.3 billion in January, a remarkable yearly increase of 179.5%, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO) on January 29.

FDI disbursement in the same reviewed period was posted at US$1.6 billion, a year-on-year increase of 3.2%.

As of January 20, Vietnam attracted 25 new FDI projects with a total registered capital of US$4.5 billion, up 14.2% in terms of number of projects and 454% in terms of registered capital compared to the same period last year.

In addition, 77 existing projects registered to increase capital during the period with a supplemented capital of over US$334 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 1.9%.

Among 26 countries and territories investing in Vietnam in January, Singapore topped the list with a total investment of over US$4 billion. It was followed by Hong Kong (China) (over US$147 million), China (US$83.8 million), and the Republic of Korea (US$51 million).

According to the GSO, Vietnamese businesses invested approximately US$3.8 million into seven projects abroad in January.
