Vietnam logs 16,278 COVID-19 cases on January 7

VTV.vn - Vietnam recorded 16,278 cases of COVID-19, including 24 imported ones, during 24 hours from 4pm January 6 to 4pm January 7, according to the Ministry of Health.

Hanoi recorded the highest number of infections with 2,723, followed by Hai Phong with 795 and Khanh Hoa with 790.

The national tally reached 1,859,841, including 30 infections of Omicron.

A total 14,633 patients were given the all-clear on the same day, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,479,048.

According to the Ministry of Health’s report, 6,006 patients nationwide are in serious conditions, with 723 requiring invasive ventilation and 20 on life support (ECMO).

On the day, the country saw 233 deaths from the disease. The death toll now hits 33,877, equal to 1.8 percent of the total caseload.

By January 6, the country had injected over 157.74 million doses of vaccines, with more than 70.52 million people now fully inoculated, while over 9.06 million third shots, either booster shots or the third shot of Abdala vaccine, had been administered.
