Vietnam launches volunteer campaign to clean the sea
Rubbish collection events will be held in 28 coastal cities and provinces throughout Vietnam.
VTV.vn - A volunteer driven campaign titled “Clean the Sea” has been launched to raise community awareness of the importance of the sea and to encourage actions to protect the marine environment.

The effort is jointly organised by the Vietnam Youth Federation, the Vietnam Volunteer Centre (VVC) and Vietnam Television’s VTV24 News Centre and will last from July 12 to August 31.

VVC Director Do Thi Kim Hoa said that “Clean the Sea” is one of the major tasks of the 2018 summer volunteer campaign with a festival to be held on the island of Phu Quoc on July 20.

Rubbish collection activities will also be held in coastal provinces throughout Vietnam.

The campaign is expected to attract at least 28,000 participants with rubbish collections performed regularly at least once a week at key pollution sites.

During the campaign, tourists can also take part in publicity and rubbish collection events at a number of public beaches such as those in Kien Giang, Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, Thanh Hoa and Quang Binh at the weekend.

“Clean the Sea” was initiated in 2016 and has been since held every year in 28 cities and provinces along the coastline, drawing the broad participation of students, local residents and enterprises.
