VTV.vn - Addressing the 6th conference of the Vietnam Fatherland's Front's Central Committee in Can Tho City on Wednesday, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong asked the organization to encourage the public to get involved in building the party.

President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan said that in 2016, the Front's activities have continued to promote high public consensus in ideology and action, towards the common goal of maintaining national independence and sovereignty and sociopolitical stability. He added that another Front’s  crucial task was calling for public involvement in socioeconomic development, including developing new rural areas and improved urban growth and encouraging people to buy locally-produced goods while attracting the participation of people nationwide. The Front is considered as an important channel collecting public feedback for party units and local authorities, contributing to social consensus.

Addressing the conference, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong stressed the vital role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in the nation's achievements in 2016.

“The Vietnam Fatherland Front need to improve its supervisory role as  of party units so as to fight bureaucracy, corruption, wastefulness and negative phenomena. The front must be more active in renewing working methods to meet the legitimate rights and aspirations of the public, contributing to strengthening close ties between the people and the party and state”, said General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

He also appreciated the conference's discussion on implementing the 12th Party Congress resolution on enhanced party-building.

“I asked all members of the front's units at all levels to be fully aware of the importance of the resolution and effectively implement the resolution. Meanwhile, the Vietnam Fatherland  Front must also promote its supervisory role and encourage people to involve in the fight against negative phenomena”, the Party Chief urged.

The party leader asked the Party units and authorities to work closely with the Vietnam Fatherland Front and hoped that more public feedback would be collected via the Front, which would serve as a reference for the party to refine its policies and guidelines. During the conference, the Vietnamese Journalists Association launched an anti-corruption and wastefulness national awards campaign following an initiative of the Front's leadership.
