Vietnam, Comoros set up diplomatic ties

VTV.vn - A joint communiqué noting Vietnam-Comoros diplomatic ties was signed on Friday at the headquarters of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York City.

The event was witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.

The communiqué was signed by head of the Vietnam Mission Ambassador Nguyễn Phương Nga and head of the Comoros’s Permanent Mission to the UN Ambassador Mohamed Soilihi Soilih. The two sides agreed to exchange diplomatic representatives at ambassadorial level and apply the 1961 Vienna Convention to diplomatic relations.

The island nation is located in the Indian Ocean, east of Africa and hosts a population of nearly 800,000. The establishment of diplomatic relationship with the Comoros has brought the number of countries that Vietnam has had official relations to 186./.
