VTV.vn - The ninth congress of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists (VAPA) for the 2020-2025 tenure opened on October 12 in Hanoi with the participation of nearly 500 delegates representing VAPA members across the country.

Addressing the congress, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam highly lauded the achievements and contributions made by VAPA members to the development of Vietnamese culture as well as to national construction and defence.

Starting from only 30 members when it was first established in 1953, the association now has tens of thousands members across the country.

According to the Deputy PM, Vietnam’s revolutionary photography has created a valuable historical record of photos on the land and people of Vietnam and has promoted the image of the country to the world.

He stressed that during wartime, photographers worked as historical witnesses who headed to the battlefields to capture the heroic struggle of the Vietnamese people and army during their many fights for national independence, freedom and reunification.

In recent years, Vietnamese photographers have actively worked as a bride linking Vietnam with the world and promoted the land, culture and people of Vietnam to international friends, he hailed. He expressed his belief that in the upcoming working tenure, the VAPA would continue renovating its operations, increasing the quality of its activities and making further contributions to national development.

Delegates at the event reviewed the association’s operation during its previous tenure and mapped out its orientation for upcoming five years.

They also elected the association’s 13-member executive board for the 2020-2025 tenure with Tran Thi Thu Dong, Deputy Director of the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition, being elected as Chairwoman.
