CEO of budget carrier Vietjet Air Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao
VTV.vn - CEO of budget carrier Vietjet Air Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao has been the first Vietnamese person to be named in the 2018 Bloomberg 50 (B50) list, which honours 50 icons and innovators changing the global business landscape in the past year.

Thao is also Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Sovico Holdings and standing Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of HDBank.

She holds bachelor degree in economics-finance, and credit-banking and doctorate degree in economics.

In 2017 and 2018, she put Vietjet and HDBank up to the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange with market capitalisation of billions of US dollars. She is now the second richest person in the Vietnamese securities market.

The list also names Chairman of the US Federal Reserve Jerome Powell, Chief Financial Officer of Microsoft Corp Amy Hood, CEO of Royal Dutch Shell Plc Ben Van Beurden, Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland, President and CEO of Boeing Defence, Space and Security Leanne Caret, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, among others.

Recently, the US’s Forbes magazine also announced a list of the 100 most influential women worldwide, with Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao ranking 44th, up 11 places from last year.

Topping the list is German Chancellor Angela Merkel, UK Prime Minister Theresa May, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Christine Legarde, and Chairwoman and CEO of General Motors Company Marry Barra.

The B50 honorees were selected by the Bloomberg Businessweek team after months of input from many of Bloomberg’s 2,400 journalists and analysts around the globe, and represent the most influential thought leaders in business, finance, technology and science, politics, and entertainment.
