Typhoon Saola weakens into tropical depression

VTV.vn - Typhoon Saola, the third tropical storm hitting Vietnam seas this year, weakened into a depression after entering the southwest coastal region of China’s Guangdong Province, on the night of September 2.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorology Forecasting, the tropical depression centre was about 21.4 degrees north latitude and 110.3 degrees east longitude, on the eastern coastal area of Leizhou Peninsula (China), at 1am on September 3. The strongest wind near the centre of the tropical depression was at level 6-7 (39-61km per hour), shock at level 9, moving in the West-Southwest direction, at a speed of about 10km per hour.

By 1pm on September 3, the tropical depression’s centre was at about 20.3 degrees north latitude and 109.3 degrees east longitude, in the northwest sea of Hainan Island in China. It continued to move in the West-Southwest direction at about 10km per hour.

By 1:00 am on September 4, the tropical depression’s centre is forecast to be about 19.3 degrees north latitude and 108.3 degrees east longitude, on the east of the Gulf of Tonkin. The strongest wind near the centre of the tropical depression decreased to below level 6, moving in the West-Southwest direction and weakening into a low-pressure area.
