Arriving with a laptop, Ngô Văn Quyết confidently accepted the challenge from the program's host to take photos and edit them on the spot. In less than 2 minutes, Quyết showcased his achievements and revealed how his work has boosted his confidence in front of others.
Quyết's childhood was filled with pain and tears due to the brittle bone disease, which left his bones fragile and prone to fractures. "Raising Quyết was very challenging. We hoped for a healthy child, but he kept breaking his legs and arms”, recounted Ms .Ngô Thị Soan - Quyết's mother.
Due to the family's financial constraints, they could only resort to simple bandages and leaf wraps. It was only later, after numerous incidents of leg and arm fractures while playing with friends, that the family realized Quyết had brittle bone disease. From then on, Quyết remained confined to one spot. He would sit alone in E every physical education class, losing his faith in life.
"There were times when I felt sorry for myself and all I could do was cry, especially when I heard people saying negative things about me”, Quyết said in tears.
Two years after graduating from high school, Quyết struggled to find a direction for his future, unable to perform heavy physical work due to his small and frail body. Faced with limited options, he decided to drop out of school and look for work. At that time, there was a class in the district teaching sewing to disadvantaged youth, and Quyết enrolled in the program. Willing to try any job opportunity that came his way, from electrical repairs to sewing and office computing, the determined young man tries his best to learn. Eventually, Quyết found a glimmer of hope in his life when he enrolled in photo editing classes at Reach, a center providing counselling and vocational support to disadvantaged youth.
Photo editing not only provided Quyết with a fresh perspective on life but also allowed him to earn extra income to support himself and his family. Quyết's diligent study and high level of skill also enabled him to become a lecturer, teaching numerous underprivileged young people. His students, who often faced poverty, disability, and a lack of job opportunities, responded to Quyết's empathy, and he dedicated himself to helping them find a path for the future.
The unexpected appearance of the students, along with sunflower bouquets, not only touched Quyết deeply, but also gave him additional motivation for his current teaching work. He said, "What touches me the most is to help students who have faced unfortunate circumstances gain more confidence and motivation in life and to break down the barriers for people with disabilities in society”.
When asked about his dreams for the future, Ngô Văn Quyết hopes that all the students he teaches will have stable, long-term jobs, and he personally wishes to maintain good health so that he can continue teaching and positively impact even more individuals. The gifts from Trạm yêu thương (Station of Love) will undoubtedly provide additional strength to this resilient young man on his compassionate journey.
What secrets will Ngô Văn Quyết's students reveal about this exceptional teacher? What else remains unknown about this young man born in the 90s with osteogenesis imperfecta?
