VTV.vn - While the American War ended 40 years ago, unexploded ordinance or UXOs in many regions across Vietnam still affect people's lives.

The Vietnam Bombs and Mines Action Support Association was founded in 2014 to tackle the issue. The association continued its work on Wednesday in the central province of Quảng Nam, one of the localities with the highest numbers of UXO victims.

Picking up rubbish, gardening. This was how Trương Tiến has earned his living since he was disabled in 1976 due to an UXO. His wife and he were consigned to poverty. That was until the Vietnam Bombs and Mines Action Support Association helped him buy a 600USD cow. He finally found some hope.

Truong Tien's family was one among the first 20 families in Quang Nam province to receive support from the association. There are some 600 UXO victims recorded in Quang Nam Province. As planned, more will receive support from the association in the coming time.

To further improve the livelihoods of the victims and raise people's awareness on the danger of UXOs in Duy Xuyen and Thang Binh District, the association has founded a branch in Quang Nam Province. This is its second branch nationwide to promote co-operation with local authorities to help the victims overcome the tragic legacy of war.
