Sugar production in review

After 22 years, the sugarcane and sugar sector contributes 0.5% to the country's GDP valued at 975 million USD. However, it is still facing many challenges which will increase due to the international integration process. It is necessary for the sector to come up with effective measures to boost its production.

Smuggled sugar is cheaper than domestic options. Therefore, businesses and traders aren't buying sugar from domestic providers, providing a problem for both sugarcane farmers and sugar producers.
