Strengthening ties with Philippines

After a welcoming ceremony on Thursday, the two presidents held talks to discuss the development of the bilateral ties over the last 40 years.

During his visit, the Filipino President paid courtesy visits to party leader Nguyen Phu Trong, and also met Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Vietnamese businesses. State President Tran Dai Quang also held a banquet in honour of his Filipino guests.

The visit by President Duterte also saw both sides issue a joint statement that reiterated the spirit of the 1976 Joint Statement on the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties and the establishment of Vietnam-Philippine Strategic Partnership in November 2015.
