VTV.vn - The Spring Festival 2020 kicked off at the Exhibition Centre for Culture and Arts in Hanoi on January 13, an annual event to greet Tet (Lunar New Year).

The festival opened with a colourful art programme featuring performances praising the Party, President Ho Chi Minh, and the country’s achievements during the national Doi Moi (Renewal) process.

The performances were delivered by more than 100 singers, dancers and artists from the Vietnam Music Song and Dance Theatre.

Themed 'A Vegan Tet', this year’s Spring Festival featured around 100 booths showcasing diverse vegan products, vegetarian dishes, and local specialties.

Festival goers can try their hands at preparing vegan banh chung (square glutinous rice cake), coconut jam and peanuts, as well as drawing lacquer paintings, making lanterns, and playing folk games.

In addition, a calligraphy corner was set up to provide a fascinating place for those who want to discover the art of Vietnamese calligraphy.

Participants at the opening ceremony also witnessed the launch of an exhibition entitled “90 years of the Communist Party of Vietnam: A glorious journey”, displaying more than 200 photos highlighting the Party’s history and leadership in the national construction, defence and development.

Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the event is open to the public for free at No.2 Hoa Lu street, Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi, until January 19.
