VTV.vn - Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, accompanied by a working delegation and donors, visited and presented gifts worth a total of VND800 million (US$34,400) to policy beneficial households and students of needy families in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre on April 28.

The trip was part of the activities to mark the 44th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day (April 30), the 133rd anniversary of May Day (May 1) and the 129th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday (May 19).

Politburo member Binh, together with the local authorities and donors, handed over 20 gifts to Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, 25 gifts to policy beneficial households, 20 sets of computers to disadvantaged primary schools, 50 bicycles and 50 scholarships to needy students, and VND300 million (US$12,900) to Ben Tre’s study encouragement fund.

Addressing the event, the deputy PM recalled the province’s glorious revolutionary traditions, stating that in the past resistance war, Ben Tre was one of the localities with the most suffering.

The official encouraged policy beneficial families to unceasingly rise above hardships in life and asked the needy students to exert greater efforts in their study in order to help their families and hometown in the future.

On April 26, Consulate General of Vietnam in Yekaterinburg, Russia, and the association of Vietnamese veterans in Russia’s Sverdlovsk province held a ceremony to celebrate the 44th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day.

Consul General of Vietnam in Yekaterinburg, Ngo Phuong Nghi, highlighted the significance of the victory on April 30, 1975, affirming that the great dedications and brave sacrifices of heroes, martyrs, comrades and compatriots would live forever with the country, in the current and future generations of Vietnamese people, and so does the wholehearted assistance offered by Russian brothers and comrades.

On the occasion, Nghi presented the insignia for “Brilliantly completing international missions” to five Russian veterans who once joined working trips and fought on the Vietnamese battlefield.

At the event, representatives of the Communist Party of Russia, the Russian veterans’ association and the Russia-Vietnam friendship association in the locality extended their best greetings on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Reunification, applauding the solidarity of the Vietnamese army and people in attaining a world-rocking triumph against US troops with modern weapons and strong military power.
