South Korean minister departs for the north to discuss summit

A South Korean delegation led by Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon, departed Seoul today to hold high-level talks with their North Korean counterparts in Panmunjom in the Demilitarized Zone to discuss details for an inter-Korean summit in April.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited China this week in his first known trip outside North Korea since he assumed power in 2011. During the visit, he pledged his commitment to denuclearization and to meet U.S. officials, China said yesterday after his meeting with President Xi Jinping. Kim's visit is believed by analysts to serve as preparation for upcoming summits with South Korea and the United States.
