South Africa could run out of water by 2030

This was the central message in the draft on National Water and Sanitation Master Plan that outlined the dire situation of the country's water and sanitation sector, and laid out a turnaround strategy to avoid the country's demand for water exceeding supply in 12 years' time.

A complete paradigm shift about the true value of water will have to occur in all levels of government and in business and civil society in order to avoid this dark future. In addition, South Africa is planning to increase 37 percent of its investment in projects to consolidate and expand its natural and man-made reservoirs, while maintaining its water supply systems nationwide.
