Sol Notes Journal: A Tay Singer’s Love for Music

Among the 1980s generation of Northern-born bolero singers, Mai Tran Lam stands out as a beloved name. He is also one of the rare Northern Bolero voices frequently invited to perform in the South. Audiences admire him not only for his voice and artistic integrity but also for his perseverance and the kindness of a young man from an ethnic minority background who has carved out his place in the music scene.

Mai Tran Lam, a Tay ethnic minority, has won the hearts of many audiences. People admire him not only for his voice and artistic dedication but also for the perseverance and kindness, the qualities that have shaped his journey to becoming a professional artist. Before establishing himself as a singer, Mai Tran Lam held  numerous jobs to make a living. The hardships and struggles he endured during this time have given his voice depth and emotion, essential elements   essential in music.

As a songwriter and music producer, Mai Tran Lam consistently infuses his work with the beauty of his homeland, Tuyen Quang. Through his songs, he highlights the historical sites, scenic landscapes, and unique cultural traits,  thereby promoting  Tuyen Quang's identity. At the same time, he showcases his musical versatility and introduces new creative expressions to audiences across the nation.

In a heartfelt conversation with host Cong Luu on Sol Notes Journal, Mai Tran Lam shared his desire to spread positive energy and messages of hope, especially to young people. He encourages perseverance through adversity, holding onto one’s dreams with faith. He says, "Keep trying every day, and you’ll eventually reap the sweet fruit of your efforts.”
