This move is in response to the program of “Free plastic waste” in Ho Chi Minh city for 2019-2021.
From 2020 onwards, the municipal Department of Finance will not be allocating funds for expenditures in state administrative agencies and non-business units to buy disposable plastic products.
Ho Chi Minh City also plans to replace plastic bags with environmentally friendly packaging by December 31, 2020 in supermarkets, trade centers, convenience stores, and bookstores. Small businesses at local markets have reduced the usage of plastic bags that don't decompose quickly by fifty percent.
