Singapore launches unique waste-to-energy research facility

This country has launched a 29 million USD waste-to-energy project, located in Tuas, which can turn solid waste into electricity and resources.

The 10-year project is supported by Nanyang Technological University and the National Environment Agency. This facility turns rubbish into syngas used to produce electricity and will also produce a glass-like material that can be used as construction material and metal alloy granulates that can be recycled.

The unique facility will test advanced waste treatment technologies as the Semakau landfill is expected to be filled by 2035.
