Senior Party official attends new rural area recognition event in Tuyen Quang
VTV.vn - Head of the Central Commission for Organisation Truong Thi Mai attends a ceremony on April 4 to recognise Kien Dai Commune in Tuyen Quang Province’s Chiem Hoa District as a new rural area.

During the French resistance war, Kien Dai was one of the places selected by President Ho Chi Minh, the Party Central Committee and the Government as their living and working place.

Over the past ten years of implementing the programme to build new rural areas, the commune’s government and people have made great efforts to transform their socio-economic life and fulfilled all 19 criteria of the programme.

The commune’s poverty rate has dropped to 5.4% and the income per capita reached 37 million VND (1,620 USD) a year.

Speaking at the event, Mai expressed her delight at the changes in the commune and noted that the recognition of Kien Dai as a new rural area is highly significant and marks the local people’s efforts to overcome difficulties.

The Politburo member also expressed gratitude towards the people of Tuyen Quang Province and Kien Dai Commune in particular, for defending the revolution during the war against French colonialists.

She asked Tuyen Quang to build on the tradition of a revolutionary base to enhance the people’s lives, ensure social security and transform Tuyen Quang into a moderately developed province in the northern mountainous region.

On the occasion, Mai and other central leaders presented 350 million VND (15,300 USD) to the commune’s learning encouragement fund, 200 gifts worth 220 million VND (9,600 USD) to poor households and 50 scholarships to disadvantaged schoolchildren.
