Road to Olympia Mount 2024: A schoolboy from Hanoi leads with an outstanding high score

Week 2 - Month 2 - Quarter 3 competition of the 2024 Road to Olympia Mount is a race among four contestants: Nguyen Huy Hoang (Hoang Hoa Tham High School - Da Nang), Nguyen Minh Dung (Dong Son 1 High School - Thanh Hoa), Nguyen Tuan Minh (Chu Van An High School - Hanoi), and Pham Quoc Phong (Bien Hoa Specialized High School - Ha Nam).

In the individual Warm-up round, Huy Hoang was the first to compete and scored 40 points. Meanwhile, Tuan Minh achieved the highest score with a maximum of 60 points, and both Minh Dung and Quoc Phong scored 40 points.

The general Warm-up round was tense as all four contestants kept ringing the bell to answer. However, Tuan Minh performed the best and temporarily led with 115 points, followed by Quoc Phong with 70 points, Huy Hoang with 45 points, and Minh Dung with 40 points.

The keyword for today's Overcome Obstacle round was a 14-letter phrase. All four contestants answered the first question correctly, earning them 10 additional points each. However, the second question posed a challenge, and the contestants needed help to provide an answer. After the third question, Huy Hoang rang the bell and answered the obstacle as "Cháu ngoan Bác Hồ," which was correct.

As a result, Huy Hoang closed the gap on temporary leader Tuan Minh (115 points)with 105 points. Minh Dung had 60 points, and Quoc Phong had 90 points.

In the Speed-up round, all the contestants focused on trying to take the lead. This round can help contestants quickly tie the score or even surpass others with the highest score, as even a one-second difference can change the outcome.

All four contestants answered correctly in the first two questions of this round, but Tuan Minh was the fastest, earning himself 80 additional points. The third question, which was about mathematics, seemed to challenge the contestants as none of them scored. At the end of the Speed-up round, Tuan Minh maintained his lead with 255 points, followed by Huy Hoang with 165 points, Quoc Phong with 160 points, and Minh Dung with 110 points.

In the Finish line round, Tuan Minh chose a set of questions worth 20, 30, and 20 points. With the calm and composure he had shown throughout the competition, Minh answered the first question correctly, bringing his score to 275 points. The second question, but he didn't lose any points as no other contestant buzzed in to answer. For the last question, Minh regained his form and added another 20 points to his score.

Huy Hoang, the contestant with the second-highest score, chose a set of questions worth 20, 20, and 30 points. Although he was a bit nervous about the first question, he regained his composure and increased his total score to 235 points.

Quoc Phong entered the final round with 160 points. In the first two questions, Tuan Minh and Minh Dung each earned 20 points from Quoc Phong with correct answers. For the last question, Phong chose the Hope Star and successfully scored an additional 60 points.

The last contestant, Minh Dung, selected a set of questions worth 30, 20, and 30 points. Like Quoc Phong, Minh Dung chose the Hope Star for the third question and earned 60 points, bringing his total score to 210 points.

The final results are as follows: Tuan Minh won the laurel wreath with 315 points, Huy Hoang scored 235 points, Minh Dung scored 210 points, and Quoc Phong scored 165 points.
