Kho Vang Village is one of the areas severely affected by natural disasters and faces a high risk of landslides. The residential area has 17 households, of which five were washed away during Typhoon Yagi. More than one hundred people were lucky to escape thanks to the timely evacuation to a safe area.
Currently, these households have been given temporary accommodation in Coc Lau Commune, while some are living with their relatives to wait for resettlement.
According to Trinh Xuan Truong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial People’s Committee, Lao Cai is one of the localities that has suffered heavy damage caused by the typhoon over the past hundreds of years. The province has recorded more than 150 people dead and missing and over 80 people injured due to storms and floods.
The reconstruction of the village is expected to be completed by December 31, 2024, according to the direction of the Prime Minister, Truong noted.
The new residential area will be built following new-style rural area standards and cultural and custom characteristics of the Tay and Mong ethnic groups - the two main ethnic groups in Kho Vang Village.
The resettlement area is about 1.5km from the current residential area.
