Major expressways in Beijing saw a rise in traffic leaving the city on early Sunday. The number of passengers at the Guangzhou South Railway Station, the largest and busiest bullet train station in south China, hit 220,000 as of 2pm Sunday.
Ticket data at the station showed that people were going mostly on short trips within the province or to nearby provinces. The Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport estimates that the daily average traffic volume will reach 2.65 million during the holiday, five percent higher than the same period last year.
