VTV.vn - A programme introducing the cultural practices of the Vietnamese people’s Tet (Lunar New Year) Festival will be held at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Hanoi on January 30.

Participants at the event will gather to make ‘banh chung’ (square glutinous rice cake), an indispensable dish of Vietnamese people during Tet Festival.

The event will gather nearly 200 people from 16 ethnic communities who are living in the village.

The highlight of the festival will be the installation of a bamboo pole, known as ‘cay neu’. The bamboo pole decorated with red garment strips is believed to repel evil spirits while welcoming blessings for the community.

The participants will gather to make ‘banh chung’ (square glutinous rice cake), an indispensable dish of Vietnamese people during Tet Festival. They will also join various folk songs and dances to celebrate new year and new spring.

The event aims to preserve and promote traditional values of Vietnamese Tet festival among the public, especially the younger generation.

On the occasion, the organising board will present 500 gifts, each worth 2 million VND, to poor household and families of policy beneficiaries in the provinces of Kon Tum and Quang Tri as well as those from Thach That District, Ba Vi District, and Son Tay Town in Hanoi.
