In his letter, he underlined late President Ho Chi Minh’s statement on human development which shows vision and insights into human resources development strategy and population work.
In the coming time, the sector needs to shift the focus of its strategy from family planning to population and development, paying full attention to population size, quality and structure, President Phuc said. Population work must enhance communications, handle issues on population scale, structure, distribution and quality in a comprehensive manner in association with mid- and long-term socio-economic development.
Population policy building needs to take note of challenges brought by globalisation, migration, urbanisation and population ageing, which have impacts on the country’s future and fate, he affirmed. President Phuc assigned the National Assembly, Government, Ministry of Health together with other ministries, sectors, localities and agencies to study and propose a suitable population strategy for the new development period.
They were asked to give priority to and devise incentives so that population work can obtain long-time efficiency; and anticipate challenges to fulfil requirements and strategic targets for the country’s socio-economic development.
