PM stresses the importance of protecting children

Speaking at the National Online Conference on Child Protection, which opened this morning, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has recommended that families, schools, and child protection agencies must consider protecting children from abuse, violence, drowning, and accidents on a daily basis. This is the first time the National Conference on Children has been organized with nearly 18,000 participants.

There are more than 26 million children in Vietnam. Last year, more than 1,800 children's deaths were due to drowning, the leading cause of child death in injury. Each year, Vietnam has an average of 2,000 cases of child abuse, of which nearly two thirds are sexually abused.

Speaking at the summit, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized the importance of protecting children from child abuse. This is also a long-term strategic task because children are the future leaders and labour force of the society.
