Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc is due to attend the third Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Summit on August 24, and deliver an important speech at the event, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang at an August 20 press briefing in Hanoi.

This is a periodical meeting which is held every 2 years with the participation of senior leaders of 6 MLC member countries, including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and China. This year, the event will be held on an online platform, Hang said.

Under the co-chair of Laos and China with the theme "Strengthening partnerships for common prosperity", the meeting will focus on assessing the cooperation situation since the 2nd Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Summit and discuss a range of activities to be launched in the time ahead.

Major issues for discussion will be community-based health cooperation, epidemic prevention capacity, cooperation in economic recovery after the COVID-19 epidemic, sustainable management and use of water resources in the Mekong River.
