Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on June 24 hosted separate receptions for leaders of some leading Chinese businesses operating in the field of infrastructure in Dalian city in China’s Liaoning province.

The meetings took place as part of the PM’s trip to China to attend the 15th World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting of the New Champions and working sessions in the country from June 24 to 27.

Meeting Chairman of the Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Co. Ltd. (CRRC) Sun Rongkun, PM Chinh called on the company to join in infrastructure development in Vietnam, especially large-scale projects and inter-regional and urban railways.

Briefing the PM on the operations of the stated-own enterprise which specialises in producing locomotives, urban rail vehicles, express trains and new energy locomotives, Sun said its products have been exported to 32 countries, including Vietnam.

CRRC wishes to continue providing railway products for Vietnam, and cooperate in the production of rail transport and new energy products in the country, he said.

In particular, CRRC wants to cooperate in inter-regional, inter-provincial and urban railway projects in the Southeast Asian nation, especially urban railway lines in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, he said.

Mentioning the Vietnam-China joint statement on continuing deepening and elevating the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and building a Vietnam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance, issued in December 2023, PM Chinh said the two sides agreed to promote standard-gauge railway connectivity across the shared border.

Vietnam is working to boost railway transport in the new situation, he said, calling on China, including CRRC, to support and cooperate with the country in the industry, step up science-technology transfer, develop human resources, and provide finance for the country in the effort.

The Vietnamese Government always creates favourable conditions for businesses, including those from China, to operate effectively and sustainably and in line with legal regulations in the country, the leader pledged.

At the meeting with Wang Xiaojun, Deputy General Manager of the Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina), PM Chinh suggested the business maintain and expand its cooperation and investment in Vietnam to the field of renewable energy, and infrastructure, particularly transport infrastructure.

According to Wang, PowerChina has operated in Vietnam in the sphere of energy since 2000 with many big projects, and it is interested in pumped storage hydropower projects, wind power projects in the northern region, integrated LNG projects, and infrastructure, particularly transport infrastructure in the Southeast Asian country.

Lauding impressive cooperation outcomes between the Chinese firm and its Vietnamese partners, PM Chinh said Vietnam is perfecting relevant institutions and expressed his hope that PowerChina will cooperate with the country in energy, especially renewable energy.

He also suggested the corporation join hands with Vietnamese partners to implement large-scale infrastructure projects in the country, and transfer solutions, administration experience, cutting-edge technologies, and new economic models.
