The plan is considered a legal basis for the prevention and control of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities in Vietnam, while at the same time, performing the responsibilities and obligations of a member state in line with provisions of the Agreement; as well as coordinating with other member countries and the international community in managing, preventing, reducing and eliminating IUU activities in accordance with regional and international regulations, contributing to ensuring food security around the world.
The plan sets out several tasks including disseminating the contents of the Agreement to relevant organisations and individuals; the implementation of training to improve the capacity of port inspection and management; reviewing and announcing designated ports for foreign ships to dock; completing the legal framework and policies of Vietnam to ensure compliance with the Agreement and relevant international measures and instruments; and the setting up of a mechanism for reporting, monitoring, exchanging information and resolving disputes in order to fully enforce the Agreement.
