The rapid growth of the digital economy, e-commerce and new business models in recent years has prompted continued changes in tax policy to keep pace with reality. From household businesses and small and medium-sized enterprises to online sellers, freelancers and digital content creators, tax knowledge has become an increasingly practical issue directly linked to both business activities and everyday life.
To make tax knowledge more accessible, Vietnam Television, with professional support from the tax authorities and finance and taxation experts, has launched “Understanding Your Taxes”.
The programme airs at 8:30 p.m. every Sunday on VTV1, with the first episode broadcast on September 6, 2026.
Tax - An everyday issue for everyone
Taxes are an important source of funding for infrastructure, education, healthcare, social welfare and other essential public services. Yet many people still find tax regulations difficult to understand and apply, from declarations and payments to electronic invoices and new policy changes.
The boom of e-commerce and the digital economy has also created new demographics requiring greater tax literacy, including online sellers, content creators, freelancers and digital-platform businesses.
“Understanding Your Taxes” aims to bridge the gap between tax policy and the public by translating complex regulations into practical, accessible information that people can understand and apply.
Understand it right, do it right.
The program not only provides information about regulations and policies but also focuses on answering questions drawn directly from people’s daily lives and business activities.
Using real-life examples, expert analysis, and the participation from relevant authorities, the program will explain issues such as tax declarations, tax payments, electronic invoices, and new tax policies in clear, accessible language. This is expected to help people better understand and proactively exercise their rights and obligations, while reducing avoidable mistakes in complying with tax policy.
The programme also seeks to raise awareness of the importance of fulfilling tax obligations, thereby promoting a more transparent and fair business environment and supporting the sustainable development of the economy.
Three segments - Three perspectives on tax
Through stories, public projects, and policies, the "Our Tax Contributions" segment illustrates how tax revenue supports national development and everyday life, helping viewers understand how tax resources benefit society.
Meanwhile, "Understand It Right, Do It Right” explains tax regulations through real-life situations and expert guidance, making complex rules easier for individuals, household businesses and companies to understand and follow.
“Tax Questions?” allows viewers to raise questions and practical concerns, which experts and relevant authorities will address, helping to make tax policies more relevant to everyday life.
Toward a multi-platform media ecosystem
“Understanding Your Taxes” is not limited to television. The programme is also designed to evolve into a multi-platform media ecosystem, aligning with changing audience habits. Alongside broadcasts on VTV1, its content will be distributed across digital platforms in various formats tailored to different audience groups.
Through short-form content, interactive programmes and community outreach activities, tax knowledge is expected to reach a wider audience, particularly young people and individuals involved in emerging business models. With a modern, accessible and practical approach, "Understanding Your Taxes" aims to make tax knowledge a more familiar part of everyday life.
In doing so, the programme seeks not only to help people understand and comply with tax rules, but also to foster a culture of tax compliance, improve economic transparency and promote a stronger sense of civic responsibility for the country’s development.
“Understanding Your Taxes” airs at 8:30 PM every Sunday on VTV1, beginning September 6, 2026.
