There were 4,360 domestic cases recorded in 42 provinces and cities, a decrease of 1,022 cases against the previous day.
They were reported in Ho Chi Minh City with 1,491 cases, Binh Duong 1,107, Dong Nai 653, An Giang 172, Binh Thuan 149, Long An 84, Kien Giang 77, Dong Thap 67, Tien Giang 59, Hau Giang 48, Can Tho 47, Ba Ria – Vung Tau 47, Khanh Hoa and Bac Lieu each 39, Tay Ninh 35, Ca Mau 32, Ha Nam 28, Ninh Thuan and Binh Dinh each 18, Binh Phuoc 17, Ben Tre and Nghe An each 16, Quang Binh and Quang Ngai each 15, Quang Tri 13, Tra Vinh and Vinh Long each 10, Dak Lak 8, Nam Dinh 4; Dak Nong, Gia Lai and Hanoi each 3; Lam Dong, Bac Giang, Kon Tum, Da Nang, Thua Thien-Hue, Ha Tinh and Phu Tho each 2; Phu Yen, Quang Nam and Hai Duong each 1.
With 818,324 cases so far, Vietnam ranked 43rd out of 223 countries and territories. In terms of infections per one million population, Vietnam was placed 155th.
Since the fourth pandemic wave hit the country on April 27, there have been 813,735 new cases, 741,874 of them have been given the all-clear from the virus.
Twelve out of 62 cities and provinces have gone through 14 days without new infections, including Bac Kan, Tuyen Quang, Lai Chau, Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Thai Nguyen, Dien Bien, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Lang Son and Lao Cai.
Also on October 5, 25,573 patients recovered and 134 died from the disease, including 104 in Ho Chi Minh City, 15 in Binh Duong, 4 in Dong Nai, each 3 in An Giang and Can Tho, two in Ca Mau, and each 1 in Kien Giang, Ba Ria – Vung Tau and Nghe An.
So far, Vietnam has confirmed 19,979 fatalities caused by the disease, or 2.4 percent of the total infections.
On October 4, as many as 1,432,631 shots of COVID-19 vaccines were given, bringing the total to 46,969,510, including 35,355,593 first and 11,613,917 second shots.
