VTV.vn - Speaking at the opening of the 14th National Assembly, Communist Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong called for greater efforts for the country's development.

This morning, speaking at the opening of the first session of the 14th National Assembly, the General Secretary, Nguyen Phu Trong, asked Congress to continue to innovate, effectively improve the quality of legislative work, decide supreme control over the important issues of the country, and ensure that the national interests were in line with the people's aspirations.

According to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the world and regional situation has become more complicated. The domestic situation is intertwined with opportunities, difficulties and challenges, which require our whole people and the military to make greater efforts, and have determination and unity to bring our country out of difficulties for sustainable development.

"We need to improve the effectiveness of the supervision and monitoring role of the National Assembly. The National Assembly needs to react in time for changes, and reduce the negative consequences emerging from the State budget. The National Assembly needs to focus on issues that are of concern to voters", said Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Stressing the role of the National Assembly in deciding important issues of the country, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong required a clear definition of the responsibilities of the Nationality Council and Commissions of the National Assembly in the examination of projects submitted to the National Assembly.

"The National Assembly needs to promote more accountability and further enhance the effectiveness of enhancing economic issues, the State budget, important investment projects, and ensuring a good personnel system for the country", said Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Regarding the quality of elected National Assembly deputies, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong emphasised the importance of responsibility and training for personnel.
