Speaking at the meeting, the NA Standing Vice Chairman said Khmer people have significantly contributed to socio-economic development, security, stability, and cultural conservation in the locality.
He also spoke highly of the contributions by Khmer Buddhist dignitaries, monks and nuns and shared his hope that they will continue to set good examples in building national unity, thus contributing to the development of Can Tho and the country.
On the occasion, the NA Standing Vice Chairman presented 52 gifts to outstanding Khmer people in Can Tho City.
Chol Chnam Thmay is one of the most important festivals of the year for the Khmer people. It usually lasts three days, with celebrations mostly taking place at pagodas.
One of the most important practices in Chol Chnam Thmay is the Buddha bathing ceremony. Khmer people also bathe to pray for forgiveness for mistakes made in the previous year.
Various traditional activities such as folk games, dances and singing are also held during the festival.
