More than 300 workers dead after Indonesian election
VTV.vn - More than 300 Indonesian election workers have died, many of whom from fatigue-related illnesses, according to figures from the National Elections Commission.

On April 17, Indonesia held its presidential and legislative elections, with around 192.8 million people across the archipelago's 17,000 islands eligible to vote. This is the first time the country combined the presidential vote with national and regional parliamentary ones, with an aim to cut costs.

Voting was estimated to have drawn 80% of the total 193 million voters, who each had to punch up to five ballot papers. However, long hours counting millions of ballots papers by hand has caused exhaustion and heart attacks of election workers. While the finance ministry was working on compensation for families of the deceased, final official results of the elections will be announced by May 22.
