VTV.vn - An art exhibition of 259 paintings, graphic art works and sculptures has opened at the HCM City Fine Arts Museum as part of the city’s celebrations of the 73rd National Day, which falls on September 2.

Siu Quy, vice chairman of the HCM City Fine Arts Association, the exhibition’s organiser, said: “On display are the results of creative camps that the association launched at the beginning of this year.”

The exhibits include 177 paintings, 44 graphic works and 60 sculptures by 164 members of the association and 68 non-members.

The works are in various media, including oil, water colour, silk, lacquer, wood, cooper and ceramic.

They reflect a wide range of topics, covering the country’s landscapes, culture, people and daily life.

They also feature the development of HCM City over the years, and the task of protecting the nation’s seas and islands.

The association has given prizes to the top works, many of which feature peaceful life in modern society.

These include Ben Thuyen (Wharf), an oil painting by Pham Dinh Tuan; Binh Yen (Peace), a lacquer painting by Nguyen Quoc Nam; Diem Tua (Fulcrum), a stone sculpture by Pham Nguyen Quoc Huy, and Pho Day (City of Wire), a sculpture made of iron by Tran Viet Ha.

Quy said: “The exhibition has quality art works, most of them productions of young people. We highly appreciate their efforts and will continue to encourage and support young talents.”

The exhibition will be open to the public at 97A Pho Duc Chinh Street in District 1 until August 30.
