Lao Cai authorities assist people in flooded areas
VTV.vn - The Fatherland Front in Lao Cai province actively mobilised every resource to help families affected by floods overcome difficulties and stabilise their lives.

The province's Vietnam Fatherland Front has spent 1,300 USD from the emergency aid fund to assist the families of six victims who died due to the floods.

Other localities and agencies also sent financial support, with Yen Bai spending 20,600 USD and the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) chipping in 41,000 USD. So far, Sa Pa town's Vietnam Fatherland Front has received over 14,800 USD in financial support and other necessities from organisations and individuals in the region to help functional forces search for missing victims.

On 13th September, Lao Cai province had announced a natural disaster emergency in Sa Pa town after nine people were killed, and others are currently missing due to heavy rains, flash floods, and landslides.

In addition, there has been severe damage to 150 hectares of rice crops, 61 cold water fish farms, national highways, district roads, and public facilities. So far, the total damage has risen to nearly 9.3 million USD. However, according to forecasts, Sa Pa and Lao Cai province have passed the danger period as the rain area shifted eastward, and only 15mm of rain was recorded on Wednesday night.

And though risks of flash floods and landslides are still present, they are not high. Currently, local authorities are continuing to carefully observe weather developments and make plans to promptly evacuate households in areas at risk of being affected by natural disasters.
