VTV.vn - The Central Highlands province of Lam Dong has set a target to reduce its rate of poor household to below 1.9 percent by 2020 from the current 2.85 percent.

The information was released at a conference held on April 25 to review the local efforts in implementing the national programme on sustainable poverty alleviation for 2016 – 2020.

As heard at the event, in the past three years, Lam Dong’s rate of poor households decreased from 5.19 percent to 2.85 percent. The 15,900 needy families in 2016 were reduced to more than 9,000, including 6,000 from local ethnic minority groups.

2018 was considered the most successful year of the efforts, with 3,895 households escaping poverty.

Da Lat city and the districts of Cat Tien, Don Duong, Duc Trong, and Lac Duong were leading localities in terms of poverty reduction during 2016-2018.

Between now and 2020, Lam Dong will strive to ensure at least 20 percent of poor and near poor households engaging in poverty alleviation programmes on an annual basis. It will also work to make per capita income of poor families to increase by 1.5 times by the end of 2020 compared to 2015.

Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Doan Van Viet asked localities to review their past performances and set out tasks to complete remaining workload in order to help Lam Dong meet its sustainable poverty reduction target.
