Japan supports Ho Chi Minh City to develop urban infrastructure

VTV.vn - A memorandum of understanding (MoU) on strengthening Ho Chi Minh City’s urban railway management capacity was signed in the city on February 21.

The signing of the MoU aims to prepare for the operation of the HCM City Urban Railway – Line No.1 and Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien metro line. The sides concerned are the Ho Chi Minh City Management Authority for Urban Railways, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Company Limited No.1, and the Tokyo Metro.

Accordingly, the Japanese company will share thier experience in urban railway management, technical cooperation, construction consultancy, and personnel exchange.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong expressed his thanks for the support from the Japanese Government and people, saying that the aid will pave the way for Japanese companies to mobilise capital and utilise technology to implement projects in Ho Chi Minh City.

For his part, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Kunio Umeda thanked Ho Chi Minh City authorities for supporting Japanese firms in implementing the construction of the metro Line 1 and hoped for more attention from them to complete the project as scheduled.

On this occasion, Japan also pledged a non-refundable aid package for Ho Chi Minh City to upgrade its outdated sewer system.
