IAEA seeks to verify north Korea’s nuclear programme

During the meeting, Director General of the IAEA, Yukiya Amano reiterated his serious concern over North Korea's nuclear programme, as well as tensions between the United States and North Korea regarding this issue.

He called upon North Korea to allow the agency to conduct inspections on its nuclear facilities, and reasserted the agency's commitment to verifying its nuclear programme. In 2009, North Korea expelled IAEA inspectors and has since refused to cooperate.
