According to Bloomberg, this result is from the latest research conducted by the United Nations. The research also points out that global warming will cost the global economy more than 2 trillion USD in 2030. 43 countries, especially those in Asia, will suffer the most severe losses. It is forecast that China’s GDP will decline 1% while the GDP of Vietnam and other ASEAN countries will also go down about 6%.
Extreme heat in Southeast Asia already curbs annual working hours by 15 to 20 percent, and that figure could double by 2050 as climate change progresses. Heat stress is more likely to restrict low-paid and low-skill jobs, such as heavy labour, farming and manufacturing. That has the potential to increase the gap between rich and poor.
