VTV.vn - The health sector should continue to focus on effectively performing its task of protecting and taking care of public health, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education Nguyen Trong Nghia has urged.

On February 23, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health, a delegation led by Nghia, also a Secretary of the Party Central Committee, visited and congratulated staff in the medical sector on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of Vietnamese Physicians’ Day (February 27, 1955-2021).

On behalf of the Secretariat, the official praised and appreciated all the efforts of the entire health sector in performing the assigned tasks, especially the sacrifices and contributions of health workers nationwide, making an important contribution to overcoming difficulties and successfully implementing the "dual goals" of both preventing and combating the COVID-19 epidemic while promoting national socio-economic development.

Nghia emphasised that doctors, nurses and medical staff who work diligently and responsibly do not fear danger and constantly volunteer at the front line of the anti-COVID-19 fight, acting as outstanding examples in society, and contributing to consolidating the people's confidence in the Party and State leadership.

The newly-appointed head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education suggested the health sector should promote its achievements in recent times, while at the same time effectively implementing a number of key tasks set out by the Party and State on caring for and improving the people's health in the new situation, strongly arousing the spirit of "a good physician is like a kind mother" as stated by President Ho Chi Minh, as well as improving their professional qualifications and capacity to serve the people.

Nghia also urged the sector to improve the capacity of its preventive medicine system to respond to public health emergencies and incidents, ensure health security, and proactively prevent and combat epidemics with a focus on early detection and timely control, especially in terms of COVID-19.

Along with that, the sector needs to step up research into measures to prevent and control epidemics in the new situation, urgently import vaccines, and give priority to research in and development of domestic vaccines against COVID-19, moving towards mass vaccination.

* On the occasion of Vietnamese Physicians’ Day, Minister of Health Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Long sent an encouraging letter to health workers nationwide, acknowledging and praising their efforts in and contributions to public healthcare.

In his letter, Long said that medical staff are an elite force in the fight against COVID-19 in particular as well as in implementing the noble tasks the Party, State and the people have entrusted in them: protecting, caring for and improving people's health.

The head of the health sector also expressed his wish that all officials, civil servants, public employees and staff across the sector continue to promote their traditions, draw from lessons learned, unite and improve their qualifications to fulfil the missions assigned them by the Party, State and people.
